Product Review

Town & Country LX

by   bruce888 ,   Aug 16, 2004

Pros:  Nice ride , handling , braking and huge interior.

Cons:  Very poor mechanical reliability. It eats front bakes. The gas mileage is horrible.

The Bottom Line:  Because of the problems, I would not get another town & Country. For the amount of years that Chrysler is making them, they should be more reliable.

Overall Rating: 2/5 stars

Author's Review

Let me start by saying that I only lease cars and vans, so I get new ones every 3 years. We went to the Town & Country from a 1999 Nissan Quest. The Town & Country has a very comfortable interior, good ride and handling and great braking (4 wheel disc ). My vehicle has 13,000 miles on it. It was just in for warranty service twice the past 1.5 months. The entire front end developed a crunch when the steering wheel was turned. The dealer replaced the following: the steering rack, the sway bar links and the steering hose. The name of the parts are: link-sway eliminator, gear-power steering, and hose-power steering return. This was one of the more major repairs that I ever needed on a vehicle. It did take care of the problem. They left the steering hose hanging down below chasis level. It had to go back to have it re-positioned. This was just sloppy repair work. The car also developed a metal squeal sound when you drive slow and turn right. The noise is driving me crazy. I just picked the car up from the dealer and guess what, they did not hear anything. The minute I drive away from the dealer I heard the noise. I guess it is back th the dealer again after the summer. Also, the van needed front brakes at 12,000 miles. The dealer wanted $320. I went to Mavis, paid $80 for front brake pads. Do not pay extra to have the rotors cut. I didn't and it works fine. On the bright side, this van is history in 2 years.
