Good vehicle-none that compare

by   walleyeman ,   Feb 26, 2003

Pros:  Interior room. AWD economy

Cons:  Not much power. No heated seats.

The Bottom Line:  An excellent vehicle for family use in northern climates. OK for towing under 3000 pounds.

Author's Review

After looking at several SUV's we decided on the Town & Country LXI AWD. We really liked the ride-especially compared to the Ford Expedition and Chevy Surburban we compared it to. After 165,000 miles we are not sorry that we chose this van. We have replaced the starter and water pump. We are on our 4th set of tires and our 2nd set of brakes. We also replaced the front struts and strut bearings at about 110,000. This compares very well with our 1989 Grand Caravan which required many expensive repairs by the same mileage. The economy usuallly averages 20 MPG of mixed driving which is good for the size of vehicle with AWD (all wheel drive). We were concerned about the AWD feature being troublesome but this has not been the case. The only thing we have done is replace the fluid in the transfer units @ 90,000.

We have a number of friends that have had transmissions go as soon as 30,000 miles but we have had no problems at all. I have had the fluid changed every 30,000 miles.

If I had one complaint it would be the lack of power. The engine is only rated at about 160 HP and this is not enough. They have corrected this with later models. Another addition would have been heated seats which was also offered on later models.
