What a nice break from a monster tandem stroller! After using our Graco Duoglider since our twins were born over a year ago, we started looking for a more compact stroller with a side by side design. We first tried the Jeep Wrangler Double Umbrella stroller but were disappointed in its flimsy construction, poor maneuverability on rough terrain, lack of storage space and many other issues. Granted, the Chicco C5 is over twice as expensive as the Jeep stroller, but it's worth the money if you're going to be using it on a regular basis.
The Chicco C5 is not lightweight at 29 pounds, but its sturdy construction makes it worthwhile. It also folds, one-handed, to about the size of a golf bag, locks when folded, and even has a carrying handle. Each seat can hold a child up to 3 years and 37 pounds. The seats recline, have 5 point harnesses with padded shoulder straps, adjustable foot rests, and individually adjustable and removable sun shades. The shades could offer more sun protection than they do, but hey, that's a small thing compared to what it does offer.
The storage compartments under each seat can hold 11 pounds each, plus there are fabric pockets hanging off the back of the sun canopies. That's pretty helpful because obviously if you're pushing around 2 kids in your stroller you're at least carrying diapers, wipes, snacks, sippy cups and who knows what else. Also, it does have a parent cup holder, and we all know that's important.
The design is two-handled and is easy to push, especially since the height is comfortable for an average adult (I'm 5'7" and my husband is 5'10"). You won't be kicking the rear middle wheel either, which can be frustrating with other double umbrella style models. It maneuvers well over curbs and is manageable off the pavement, although it's not designed for heavy duty off-roading! It fits through standard doorways although this does take some getting used to, especially if you're used to a front/back design.
This is not a cheap stroller for its type, and since we could not find any stores near us who carry this stroller, we were hesitant to buy it online, sight unseen. We finally found it secondhand, which enabled us to check it out before buying it. If you want to see it in use, however, you can go to the chicco website and watch a demonstration: http://www.chiccousa.com/product.php?productid=171&cat=5&page=2
Sleek and modern design coupled with ease of use make this a good buy. All in all, it's a great product and I would recommend it to parents who want a break from the average double stroller.
