Product Review

A Cute BIG Small Car !

by   poohbearfla ,   Nov 23, 2006

Pros:  Fit & Finish. Nimble. 'Cute Factor'

Cons:  HORRIBLE MPG. Tiny Gas Tank. Tiny Wheels

The Bottom Line:  If you need a cute little economy car to get from point A to B,this is good choice, for the price. Not a Honda, but not the price either!

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I own the 2006 Aveo 4 door HATCHBACK version, with an automatic trans. A/C, single CD player, and little else in the way of factory options. I have put on my own OEM side molding, tint, satellite radio, hood protector, and OEM splash guards. Much cheaper on EBay :). While the car looks small on the outside, it is huge on the inside. I am of average height, but it also seats my friends that are over 6ft tall with lots of headroom to spare! Yes it is a 'economy car', yes it is a renamed Daewoo, BUT it is a car that is all over the world, in nearly every Europeon country under many different names. It does NOT get the high mileage that Chevy claims, the main reason I bought it, besides the 'cute factor'. For a car this light with a tiny engine, it should get MUCH better mileage. I bought it at the height of the HIGH gas prices, looking for 30 MPG and more...I am not getting anywhere near that. But that is it's worst problem so far. But it does fly down the road very very fast. Touch the gas pedal and your going 60mph in a flash, and you would never know it, until the cops pull you over! It is as quiet as a tomb, no wind noise or outside noises at all. Very little engine noise, until you push it very hard. It would be nice to have bigger wheels, and an armrest, that is now in the 2007 model. The stereo is weak and resets its volume to a low setting everytime you turn the engine off, very annoying! Along with its 'safety' drivers door that won't allow you to lock your keys in the car, because you MUST lock the door with a key! But it is what it is, an inexpensive 'world car', that Chevy has brought over to the USA, and is much much less expensive than a Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris,or even a Kia Rio. Fit and finish are near perfect, seams are exact and tight. The fabric on the seats is a bit rough, but should be durable. For an 'economy car' it comes standard with a tilt steering wheel, height adjustable driver seat, and rear window wiper, standard. That pretty good value! The hatchback has so much room in it, with it's multi-adjustable rear seats, to give you tons of storage room or passenger room. I think the hatchback has a bit more style to it than the boring sedan. The new 2007 sedan is totally new, but the hatchback is still the same, only VERY minor new upgrades in it, like an armrest for the driver and a different automatic shift setup. So save a lot of money and buy a 2006, they are identical!!
