Author's Review
Another reviewer talked about the Equinox being a great USA car - it's actually built in Canada. That said, I've driven mine (brand new) since December 2004, and put about 9500 miles on it. The mileage is great for an SUV (I get 20-22mpg), the ride is firm, the steering could be improved (but is not mushy), engine power is good (I took it up to 100mph and it handled the same as 50mph), interior room is ample. I also like how the rear bench seat is movable, and the front passenger seat can fold flat. I bought the LS model, which had the optional Side-Curtain Airbags. The downside with that is no hanger hooks, but for the option, I'll take it. The dash is easy to read in daylight and night, the radio (I believe it is an option) has RDS and MP3 player. True, the lower cupholder is almost useless, but I use it for my aftermarket XM Radio. It also has map pockets up front, plenty of them too! In terms of reliability, I've only had to get a flat tire fixed and changing the oil.
In all, this SUV is for those who need some space, while not wanting a Tahoe/Trailblazer's size or MPGs.
