Love the Ride, but safety issues involved.

The Bottom Line: This is a great little car, but not sure the airbags work when you need them.
My husband and I bought a 2005 LS, with the manual transmission,in December of 2005. He drives it 50 miles to work each day, and loves the way it handles, and it has plenty of pep for what he is doing with it. We had a Metro before this, and this was a big step up from that.
The problem is that my husband was in an accident a few days ago, going 50 miles an hour on a highway, when the SUV in front of him, locked up his brakes, and they were smokin'. My husband instantly hit his brakes, locked them up, and skidded into the back of the SUV. He wasn't hurt, amazingly enough, considering the airbags didn't open! He managed to brace himself by hanging on tight to the wheel, and thank goodness for strong seatbelts. But the front of the car is totaled, especially on the drivers side, and the engine is damaged. We just can't understand why the airbag didn't deploy, and considering the size of the SUV, the Aveo could have practically slid right under it. We will be getting another car, and do love this car, but the airbags not deploying is a serious consideration.
