Author's Review
This is my second Suburban, and it's better than the first (1997 model). I bought it new 4 years ago, and now have 82,000 miles on the vehicle. During that time, I've had it in for two repairs: the rear air conditioner went out, and the parking break went out (still not sure how that happened as I never use the parking break). Other than those two items (total cost roughly $1,000 to fix), our Suburban has been trouble free.
Many have reported on the Suburban's roominess, which of course is a key selling point. But the ride is smooth, comfortable, and quiet. The fit and finish on the vehicle is great, and the paint quality is outstanding as my vehicle has no cracks, fade, nor chips after 82K miles on the road.
As far as operating the vehicle, it is also trouble free. I rarely have to get the alignment adjusted, no tune up is necessary until 100K, and the 29 gallon tank ensures we get at least roughly 450 miles between fill-ups. My only complaint in this regard is that the truck does seem to consume (burn?) motor oil. I do not have a leak, but I do need to add a quart of oil or two between oil changes (6K intervals).
One other minor note - I can almost guarantee you that one of the daytime running lights will go out. Ours went out at around 40K miles. I then noticed one Suburban after another with one light out, so this must be a common item. It's not big deal as it's a minor item, but I've been surprised to see approximately 15 other Suburbans with one light out (and there's an entry on complaints.com on the matter).
Overall, I love my Suburban and plan to buy another one next year.
