Major engine repairs common at 60k - 100k miles

Pros: It was fuel efficient until the engine problems started, now it's MPG has dropped substantially.

Cons: $3000 - $5000 repair job.

The engine is prone to sludge build-up, resulting in excessive engine oil usage -- up to 2 quarts per week. The engine leaks from the top part of the engine as it cannot drain to the lower part of the engine. There is no repair kit, and dealers are refusing to consider this any kind of warranty repair.

Warranties do not cover this as no extended warranties cover this year/make/model of car ... I wonder why? The 2001 Toyota Corolla (which this is the same vehicle) has been recalled in JAPAN ONLY for major engine malfunctions due to leaking out all engine oil.

Search the Internet for 2001 Prizm complaints ... you'll be surprised with what you find.
