Author's Review
I did not want a minivan. I especially did not want a Chevy Astro van. I told my husband it looked like a big box. Then I test drove one and it drives like a dream. We bought a white one! White is easy to take care of and the way we use this vehicle there is no way a dark paint job would last. The only problem we have is that the center console sticks into the front passengers foot area. Not too much though. It is smooth and comfortable. Easy to maneuver. I wanted, like most people I suppose, to drive a suburban or some other vehicle of mass destruction but couldn't afford it or the gas mileage. Minivans, however, could not do it for us because we have a 19 foot aluminum boat and go camping a lot. The Astro van is perfect for us. We can seat 8 people and have enough room for camping gear (not many other minivans can), we can tow our boat (no other minivans have towing capacity because of front wheel drive) and I can see over everyone. I feel safe in this vehicle, it gets good gas mileage, can tow the heck out of a boat and is roomy enough for the people it seats. I would never buy any other minivan and I hesitate to put the Astro in the category but most people do. They are simply a modern version of the station wagon. They seat a lot of people (most can seat 7 but not as comfortably as the astro) and they are easy to drive, BUT, no other minivan has the capacity to be used for anything but passenger travel. I am proud to be an owner of a Chevy Astro Passenger Van.
