The biggest gas saver is in the small package of a Metro. I am the happy owner of a 99 Metro. This is the second one I've owned. If you want great gas mileage and a nice little commuter car the Metro is the answer.
I have gotten over 50 miles to the gallon on my first Metro, and close to that with the one I have now.
After I bought the '99 we decided to take a week end trip down to New Orleans from Dallas. Although my Metro does not have cruise control, it was no problem to drive it that distance. It held its own out on the road with all the new SUV's and big autos. And it keeps up good speed with all the Mario Andretti's out there. The gas mileage was incredible as always.
If you are looking for a great commuter car with unbelievable gas mileage, I suggest you check out the Metro.
Mine is called Scuba Blue, but looks more like Purple, so we have named it "The Barneymoblie".
