Good kettle

I received this electric kettle as a gift about 2 months ago and have used it quite heavily ever since. So far, it has held up as a reliable, good-quality kitchen appliance.

This is the first electric kettle I have ever owned, and only about the third one I have ever used. Unless you have water up to the fill line of the kettle, it is pretty quick to boil water.

You are supposed to operate it with at least a certain amount of water in it so that you do not run the risk of it boiling dry, which would damage the kettle. Unfortunately, there is no handy line on the kettle that stands out that essentially notifies you to have at least 'this much' water in the kettle. This is no big drawback, though it would be handy.

In any event, I usually boil almost the maximum amount of water in it so that I can make coffee in my French press coffee maker. Since it does take a little bit of time to boil that much water, I will usually fill it, turn it on, and do a few kitchen-related chores to give it time to boil. As long as you plan ahead a bit, the fact that it takes a little while to boil the water is not a big deal.

The switch used to turn the kettle off and on is well designed. It is large and it lights up orange when it is in the on position. The size of the switch is such that it takes almost no effort to turn the kettle on, but it is out-of-the-way enough that it would be difficult to accidentally switch it on. If the switch were accidentally moved to the on position, it would be fairly obvious because of the orange light.

This kettle sits on a base. The base has a cord and plug that you plug into the wall. I have no problem just keeping mine plugged in most of the time.
