Author's Review
Life is beautiful. Art is beautiful. And even women, too, are beautiful. So to say the least, but to talk about the most, Charlie's Angels finally makes its motion picture debut after a long time after the demise of the classic television program. Men couldn't be happier.
That is to say that Charlie's Angels is the basic plot of how three beautiful ladies take on bad guys with fist fighting, leg kicking, and all around Mission: Impossible-style detective action. The movie, not a remake of any of the old episodes from the TV show years back (I've never seen the show, but I've heard of it), takes to the silver screen. And just like any old TV show that turns to film this movie gets the audience excited.
Charlie's Angels stars three of Hollywood's loveliest ladies. Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore play the parts of the bodily figures. The plot of the movie, and their assignment, is to spy on Roger Corwin's (Tim Curry, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York) corporation that has been suspected of stealing voice recognition software from a wealthy Mr. Eric Knox (Sam Rockwell).
The Angels - Natalie (Cameron Diaz, The Mask), Dylan (Drew Barrymore, Never Been Kissed), and Alex (Lucy Liu, Shanghai Noon) - are on the case to take down the bad guys. Their adventures don't stop there, as they'll also find love, deceit, and much more along the way.
I liked Charlie's Angels a lot. Not only for the three sexy ladies, but also for the action and movie fun. That's right, it's fun to watch the ladies end up in trouble, and get themselves out of it. Normally, you won't ever find a movie where women star as the heroes. But, here it is. So lap up your wallet and bask in the greatness while you still can.
Easily, the acting was great for the characters and their daily antics. Sure, while undercover (and there's a lot of that in the film) you've got to act a certain way. Drew, Lucy, and Cameron give off their sexual behavior. Yet, the theme works since most of the movie takes place at parties or group functions where a women's presence is the way it should be. And each of the three girl's performances outshine one another.
The film is very similar to the style of Mission: Impossible 2. There's undercover style, Matrix kicks and flips, and even the occasional villain who just won't die. I felt a bit as if I were watching Mission: Impossible II all over again, except this time Tom Cruise had blonde hair, breasts, and an on-screen character that I could really dig my eyes into.
Bill Murray also stars in the film as Bosley, the 'helper agent.' Or in other words, he's the comedy relief. He helps out with information, and sometimes with undercover. But he's not a fighter... he's a lover.
The action is intense. I don't know if those scenes were done by stunt doubles or not, but they were pretty cool. Each of the women do rolls over the other one's back for team fighting. They'll kick, they'll punch, they'll blow your brains out and serve it back to you in portions!
I was impressed by the soundtrack to the movie. In the beginning, KoRn's "Are You Ready?" rock song plays. From there, and throughout the film, the music will change slightly from time to time through other various, and popular artists. There was a good mix of old and new songs. When fighting takes place, and bullets go off, the sounds of the film are even spectacular.
Extra! Extra! Read all about the extras! Well, the special features of the film are plentiful. There's a multitude of features, such as bloopers, deleted scenes, the making of the movie, actors and crew on movie takes, and much more! Surely, you won't find much of a problem from a DVD like this one.
It's hot, it's cool, it's fun and action put together. Whether you're giving this title a rent or a buy, you'll probably (well, maybe), or most definitely like Charlie's Angels. That's a sure bet.
