First off, I'm not sure where one of the reviewers had gotten their information, but Coco was not a scent that Mlle. Chanel directed and chose for herself, but on the other hand, it was No. 19 that was created for her that she personally worn and had given to her favorite clientele to cherish.
One can say overall that this is a bold scent, but perhaps not for a scent created in 1984, as basically all scents were bold back then, but definitely it has become a classic and a remarkable composition that defies marketing trends with its spicy, floral, and woody composition. Many sales associates at a department store will claim this is more for a woman that is older, but really this has to be re-phrased that this is for the woman that has enough sophistication to wear this beautiful scent! Such is what it means to wear anything from the House of Chanel.
Surprisingly, the Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, and the pure Parfum versions are all quite different. I've tried all three, the Eau de Parfum being the most different of them all, but naturally all three different versions compliment each other very well, and I love the Parfum version the most.
The scent opens sweet, spicy and embracing with notes of Angelica, Mimosa, Frangipani, and Mandarin. The frangipani then marries with the middle notes of jasmine and the sharp powdery notes of bulgarian rose, and supported with leathery notes of labdanum, opopanax, and benzoin at the base.
In typical Chanel style, the scent, as revolutionary as No. 5, is abstract, which means that no one fragrance note (generally floral) takes center stage, one note barely distinct from the rest. Coco does remind me of the most precious incense, smouldering, alluring, and intoxicating. Pricey, but well worth it in terms of longevity and quality. Wearing this speaks class and sophistication. I feel so beautiful, yet powerful when I wear this. Purchase it at your local Chanel boutique to add to the experience and your purchase well worth it!
It's been mentioned that Catherine Zeta-Jones wears this, and I definitely like her style! Steer clear of shopping for this on eBay, there are counterfeits out there. I'm trying to recoup my loss after getting a fake bottle there. Stick with your favorite e-tailers if you're considering getting one online.
