Author's Review

Silko's work "Ceremony" is a wonderful book concerning life of a World War Two veteran who is returning to the Laguna reservation in New Mexico. By far the strongest aspect of this book is the imagery that Silko flawlessly weaves throughout the text. The nature and societal themes range from subtle to direct and I feel it impossible to even grasp the true meaning of this book in only one read.

This book, is also a lot easier read, and a lot less stressful than her "Almanac of the Dead." In addition, "Ceremony" is a lot shorter which allows it to be a pleasure book as well as a philosophical work. The things that the author takes on in this book are amazing, for she through many devices, criticizes almost all of western society in a way that cannot be retaliated against.

Silko is a genius, for the imagery in this book are _amazing. She uses nature extensively throughout this book, and does a marvelous job in doing so. The Native American perspective is quite unique, and unreplicatable by non-Indian Authors.

This book reminds me a lot of "Love Medicine," but not in the obvious ways, for even though both books discuss the effect of society on the Native's, "Ceremony" is much more precise in its critique of the nation.

So, in conclusion, "Ceremony" is a book that combines Native American elements with nature to create a work that delicacy ties a noose around the world.
