G that's a problem!
Date of Review: Dec 30, 2006
The Bottom Line: I like this product but the watch bands are poor in quality in my opinion and I'll likely replace them with another brand of watch strap.
I have 2 G-Shock watches from Casio including this model. For the most part they have been good watches. Much better than Timex Ironman Shock which seem to crater after a year or two when the buttons on the side seize up and stop working.
I like big clunky watches so the G-Shock's have always caught my fancy. The features are cool although I rarely use them. On this model I find the alarms too quiet. It doesn't wake me up when I nap on my breaks at work. My older G-shock used to wake me up no problem. Mind you my wife says I don't hear her as well as I used to anymore either. Maybe I'm going deaf. I used to use the data storing feature a lot on both watches to store phone numbers. But my latest cell phone has now taken over those duties.
The problem I have had with both G-Shock's I own is that the watch straps disintegrate. I'm a nurse so I wash my hands about 50 times per shift at work so maybe that contributes to it, but the "resin" or plastic as I call it gets brittle then cracks and eventually breaks. Also the little loop part that you pass the end of strap through beyond the buckle to keep it close to your wrist have cracked, broken and disappeared on both watches.
Now I found a website for a company that sells genuine G-Shock straps but for the 2 correct straps I need and shipping to Canada where I live it's $75 US before duty. I could go buy a new G-Shock for that much.
Anyways that's my beef. I love the styling, the features and the durability of the watches from Casio's G-Shock line but the straps are poor in my opinion.
