Outstanding Training Aid

Date of Review:  Apr 3, 2004
The Bottom Line: Fantastic runners' aid coupled with great price and features! You'll love it!
Review: Wow, this thing is awesome. It s great to determine exact distances of your runs and average pace. The GPS signal takes a minute or two to capture after I go outside, so I just start it up and begin my stretches while I wait. I run early in the...

Just the thing for bike rides

Date of Review:  Dec 30, 2006
Review: I have used the Forerunner 301 for some time to record my bike rides. I use the Auto Lap function (Training Assistant menu) frequently. Marking waypoints is rather slow. Getting there from "time of day" requires a minimum of 5 keystrokes. The heart...

Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS Receiver: Worth the Cost to Track Your Performance?

Date of Review:  Jul 8, 2005
The Bottom Line: A very good tracking device when it comes to working out.
Review: I have always used some method to try to track my performance while working out. Almost all of my workouts are performed outside and it is not always easy to determine how far or fast I have covered the territory. I have used numerous pedometers,...

Training Incentive!

Date of Review:  Jun 28, 2004
Review: I have had my Forerunner for nearly one month and absolutely love it! I run 3-4 times a week around Washington DC and have been amazed and inspired by its capabilities. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have not had any trouble receiving a...

Garmin Forerunner 201: Great Idea, but needs more work

Date of Review:  Sep 21, 2004
The Bottom Line: Not bad for the relative inexpensive price. Still has several bugs to be worked out. Wait for a follow on product. Recommended with reservations.
Review: Garmin offers a product that many distance athletes have been waiting for. The forerunner 201 comes in a relatively inexpensive, light weight, and easy to use package. I purchased mine for $140.00 from a Marine Corps Exchange only to find it two...

When it's on, it's on - when it's not, what's the point?!

Date of Review:  Dec 7, 2004
The Bottom Line: Wait for this product to improve, without better GPS tracking ability it's just extra weight on your wrist.
Review: 2006 update: The thing broke after I left it outside in the cold for a few days, b/c I had to do that in order to get a signal active before going running (the alternative is to stand outside, still, in the cold, for 5 minutes, before you start...

keep on track without having to carry a brick!

Date of Review:  Aug 22, 2007
The Bottom Line: This device is excellent if you are training in cross-country activities such as cycling or running, as it can be used to monitor your progress!
Review: A small GSP, for those who don't necessarily wish to associate the ability to keep on track with having to carry a brick around with them; its actually connected to the wrist - via a wrist strap in the same way as a watch, and its not much larger!...

Great idea, but receiver is too weak

Date of Review:  Jun 21, 2004
The Bottom Line: A nice idea, but receiver is very weak, and therefore the unit has trouble picking up and holding satellites. This problem causes inaccurate readings.
Review: Having experience with a Garmin GPSMAP 12 handheld GPS unit I thought any product built by Garmin would be of highest quality and reliability. I purchased the Forerunner 201 about 1 month ago.
After running on treed streets and bike paths with...

Exciting Idea But Did Not Work For Me

Date of Review:  Jul 4, 2004
The Bottom Line: The only way to know if this will work for you is to purchase it and use it for several weeks in all conditions.
Review: I purchased the Forerunner 201 on June 12th from REI and paid $150. With great excitement, I set it up according to instructions, and then set out to measure all of the great runs and bike rides I have been doing for years to see exactly how far all...

Good product....for the most part.

Date of Review:  Jan 26, 2005
The Bottom Line: Great fitness aid, would recommend for use rural and urban use, but expect to lose signal from time to time in the city.
Review: I purchased the Forerunner 201 mainly for my wife to aid her in training for a 60km (40 miles) walk to fund Breast Cancer. As she gradually walks more and more each outing, she wanted to know exactly how far she was going, and how fast of pace she...
