I never had Captain Morgan's Tattoo before. In fact I never even heard of it. My wife came home with a bottle from a party. We have had Captain Morgan's regular brand rum and it's something we like. I was very interested in this other product of theirs. It's a 70 proof dark rum from Puerto Rico. that is noted to have
Spice and other Natural flavor's.
Straight
In pouring the liquid into my glass I saw that it was of a dark brown hue, nice enough looking. It also smelled quite sweet. It smelled like a sweet cherry flavoured cough medicine.
I tried some straight. It tasted like cherry cough medicine too. It even has that lingering taste that holds on for a while on the side of the tongue. The rum had a bit of a bite at the end but nothing worth noting. I didn't like the stuff straight. Too sweet and kinda syrupy.
Mixed
My wife was making run and coke. I thought I would try Captain Morgan's Tattoo that way too. I happen to like a sweeter tasting rum and coke. My wife and I are die hard fans of Meyers rum, another dark rum like this one that also happens to be on the sweet side. Not as sweet and no after taste though.
She made me my drink. She's the bartender of the two of us. I tried it. I didn't like it that way either. Once again that strong cherry cough medicine taste came through and was compounded by the sweetness of the coke too.
Simple as that and nothing else to compare to or talk about as far as taste. I didn't like this straight or mixed.
Last Thoughts
I didn't like this rum at all. I will take Captain Morgan's Original over this any time.
