Author's Review
I always check online regarding Canon digital cameras review, and so , this camera is the one that attracts my attention best. It does look bigger than SD600 but its still got better feature, take note image stabilization, plus its tricolor design really stands out. As a beginner user, browsing with all of the functions really is easy to understand.
It has 6 megapixel with 4x optical zoom. I love the digital macro setting when you really wanna take a picture of something upclose. It delivers an excellent picture, I recommend using the fine or superfine setting in taking pics, its good in printout. You can zoom it in and out when viewing pics, make still images from the movie you just make, and it has different theme if you feel like changing the sound of the shutter, etc. It has a nice slide show too, though limited style effects. It's nice to play around with this camera and as I said its easy to understand. Just be cautious with what you're pressing, if you're just learning it, just try to press slowly but surely, you don't wanna delete a precious picture, you can't take it back. Be careful pressing the button under function/set where there's a drawing of a timer and multiple squares(single shot, continuous or custom shooting), when you're viewing your pictures, pressing so will ask you if you want to erase the image, press the menu button to cancel.
But of course there's also downsides like, you don't know whether the battery will be out soon, (when its almost out the blinking battery meter will appear, before you knew its off, there should at least be a battery meter ) anyways its fine just charge it if you think you used it a lot for a day, it charges fast like more or less 2 hrs with the charger that goes with it. The red eye needs to be set before use, well... as a first time owner of a camera, its kinda hard to switch into flash, no flash, red eye reduction, etc, if i need to take a picture simultaneously, it should be in-camera (or maybe its too much for me to ask). The Canon software though, that goes with it solve the problem, I haven't done much picture editing but I tried the fix red-eye button, and viola! it woks instantly, of course you need to computer to do the job, just need to edit it before printing or going to any digital developing centre.
It has no internal memory but there's a free 16MB SD card, which just good for 3-5 pics with super fine setting, you still need to buy additional memory card, this one uses SD card or MMC. I bought an SD card with mail-in rebate, memory cards are so expensive, but it helps you store more images and movies if you got large amount of memory.
Speaking of movie, there's the movie mode too, as AVI, which i try and its pretty clear, I haven't tried the editing part though. You have to adjust the volume setting the first time when you're doing the playback. It view well in monitor and tv, it goes with audio video jack as well and usb connector for easy transfer to a computer.
Added interesting features are those different shooting modes, i would like to test the Snow shooting mode and the Fireworks mode if it really deliver good pics, you can edit pics too with My Color setting whether you want it in black and white effects, septic effects, lighter/darker tone, etc.
There's also the photostitch if you want a panoramic picture, you need the software to put the pictures together to form one picture. I love the continuous shooting too, with 2 mins (or so) interval, this is one feature i will keep on using.
It's easy to clean too, just take any eyeglass cleaning cloth with your camera or put it in your camera bag, for easy access every time you're done using it, you can't avoid touching the LCD (and other's too, especially they like pointing there good shots).
Over all I love love love my SD700, its not bulky it operates easily and most especially pics are great .This is for keeps and the style and the useful features and the quality of the pictures won't disappoint you. c",)
