Excellent Pocket Camera
Pros:
Image quality, construction, size, LCD screen, color and white balance modes, value for the dollar.
Cons:
Flimsy battery door.
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this camera to anyone seeking near-professional results in a rugged pocket sized package.

Author's Review
I upgraded to this camera from the SD450 about 3 months ago under an extended warranty. Perhaps just a bad seed, after about a month my SD450's LCD screen was plagued by popping pixels. For a few dollars more I was able to upgrade to the newer, somewhat retooled SD600. I am very happy with my decision to stay with Canon and pick up this model. The two models are almost identical, the SD600 sporting a few improvements. The LCD screen is a bit sharper, the 3-way mode selector switch feels more solid, and of course, it has an extra megapixel for improved image clarity.
The image quality is superb. The lens is of exceptional quality for a camera of its size, my only complaint being that images viewed at a large size appear a bit soft at the corners. This isn't even noticeable up to 8 1/2" x 11" size though. The camera's macro ability is awesome. I am into taking insect macro shots and this camera does very well. The plethora of color and white balance settings are very handy and produce great results. The start-up time is lightning fast and shutter lag virtually non-existent. I am very impressed with its overall speed.
It appears to be possibly the last model in the Digital Elph line with a full stainless steel body, and I am very satisfied with its construction. Feels solid and heavy, my only complaint is the cheap plastic battery door. I feel Canon could have spared a few extra bucks and given it a more solid, possibly metal one. Other than that, it feels solid as a rock.
Despite complaints I have read about its battery life, I haven't noticed it to be a problem. I ofter go for walks, 1 1/2 to 2 hours in duration, and can usually get away with one fully charged battery. However, I do carry a spare just in case, and I would recommend the same to any perspective buyer. I picked up an aftermarket replacement for $12 and it does just fine.
