Pros: 5 megapixels, 4x Optical Zoom, lots of manual control options, excellent image quality
Cons: Redeye and chromatic aberration (purple fringing) problems
The Bottom Line: The new Canon Powershot G5 offers users an almost perfect balance of intuitive usability, near pro performance, solid build quality, compact size, and exceptional images.
Review: Digital camera evolution has been truly impressive and pro-sumer models are one of the hottest segme ...

by   zlmajors ,  Jul 11, 2003
Pros: Fantastic images that have superb detail, attachable lenses, fast, many features.
Cons: Problems with lens cap, chromatic aberration in the pictures.
The Bottom Line: A great intermediate/advanced camera that will fulfill all of your photo needs. Built on a proven design with many upgrades, canon fans will not be dissapointed.

You Just Can't Keep a Good Thing Down

by   svenllr ,  Jul 12, 2003
Pros: Faster, AWESOME pictures, prosumer features.
Cons: Red eye, slow flash recharge, flash doesn't fill entire picture.
The Bottom Line: If you want quality professional images with the ease of use of a consumer camera, then this is your ticket. The competition has once again been one-upped!
Review: My friend got a G1 on my recommendation and then I got a G2 after playing with his G1. I used it fo ...

Gets the Big Things Right

by   donnyg ,  Dec 30, 2003
Pros: Excellent combination of quality, features, size and price
Cons: a bit big for a compact; autofocus can lag under some circumstances
The Bottom Line: Solid combination of great pictures, wide range of user-friendly features, long battery life and reasonably compact size.
Review: Canon's latest Powershot entry, the G5, is marginally improved from their previous G3--mainly by upping the megapixel count from 4 to 5. I looked at comparably priced Olympus, Sony and Nikon before settling on the G5. Having taken thousands of pics ...

A few words on the G5

by   lfinato ,  Jul 20, 2004
Pros: Outstanding overall performance
Cons: Just the few things I noted.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend it. Thanks to the overall performance and few shortcomings. I do think too one should also look at comparable Nikon and Olympus
Review: I have owned this for approx. 9 months. So far I am VERY pleased. Do I think it's perfect? No. But what unit is? While it tends to be a little large it's still easier to handle than my previous unit (Olympus D600L) but a little heavier. Photo ...

WOW--a great camera

by   cmgb ,  Jul 18, 2004
Pros: Awesome pics, brilliant color!!!
Cons: None for me!
The Bottom Line: Buy it, practice and enjoy the professional results!
Review: LOVE this camera. Have had it 4 mos. It is not a camera you can keep two weeks and give up. You have to read directions and practice. I saw some purple fringing but not much and usually easily avoided. As far as shooting in bright light, just select ...

Tops In Its Class

by   newtownbeans ,  Dec 28, 2003
Pros: Nearly perfect digital photos; many, many features; easy to use; great value.
Cons: Except for the obsessive professional, there are none.
The Bottom Line: Recommend to anyone for image quality, ease of use, versatility, battery life and high trade-up value. Shop for the best price and trade up for the G6 next year.
Review: This is my third G series PowerShot digital camera. I owned the G2, G3 and now the G5. In addition to the increased megapixels from 4 to 5, there are only a few other changes from the G3. By the way, in case you're wondering why Canon skipped over the ...

If you're looking for a video & hi-quality photo combo, this is it!

by   alcasiddotcom ,  Dec 20, 2003
Pros: 5 MP photo, 1-hr video, flexible viewfinder, small, can use SLR lenses
Cons: Not pocket size.
The Bottom Line: Unless you're priority is to get a pocket-size camera, get this. I'll have this camera for a long time!
Review: For the last few months, I've been researching a solution to fulfill my needs (more like wants) for a camera that would : 1) produce high-quality still photos 2) allow me to have the capability to take at least 10 minutes of video 3) small, mobile ...

Excellent camera for home

by   sockdrawer ,  May 17, 2005
Pros: Great photos, manual settings, LCD screen, ease of downloading photos
Cons: Too bulky to carry around to take photos on vacation
The Bottom Line: Good product for around the house use, not to carry around.
Review: I've owned the G5 for about a year now. I've taken over 2,000 photos, mostly of a couple toddlers around the house and outside. I bought this camera after much research and trying out my frontrunners in the stores where I could find them. I've used ...

Great For Action Shots! Nice Camera.

by   smartstartk9 ,  Jan 16, 2005
Pros: Great for action shots, convertible monitor, nice video!
Cons: A bit large and heavy. Flash isn't enough in low light.
The Bottom Line: A solid, well made, easy to operate and functional camera, but not the most portable.
Review: I received this camera as a gift from my husband. We also purchased the larger memory card. This camera takes some of the best action shots I have ever seen! I do sheep herding with my dog and have gotten some professional quality shots of the ...
