Author's Review
I was going to purchase this camera online after reading all the technical reviews, but I had problems with the company that I selected online. So, I ended up purchasing this at the local camera shop instead.
I'm incredibly pleased with the G3. It's a major step up for me compared to the Canon Digital Elph S100 and S110 that I was using previously. Yet, still had some familiar feel to the film SLRs I have based on size and weight.
The function and option menus are a bit extensive, and after reading through the manual, everything was fairly easy to understand. There are several modes that will allow me to specify the details I want, as well as auto for those lazy point and shoot moments. This was a major jump in capabilities for me compared to using the S100.
The camera feels quite solid. It fits into my average sized hands quite well. I really like the rotating LCD, the video option and the TV output. The resolution and color quality has been very nice as well.
Battery life is a major bonus compared to what I had expected for a digital camera. Even in extreme cold temperatures in an ice storm, the camera battery performed well as I shot about 200 shots outdoors.
Perhaps the only issue I am really disappointed with is the obstruction of view through the view finder. The barrel of the lens is visible in the lower left portion. It's a bit distracting.
Overall, I'm incredibly happy with the G3. When I was debating between the G2 and the G3, everyone I spoke to said to go with the G3 if I had the extra money to spend. I'm glad I did!
