Is the new Canon Powershot G3 the best G yet?

by   Howard_Creech , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Oct 20, 2002
Pros: Many innovative improvements over the Canon Powershot G2
Cons: None worthy of note
The Bottom Line: Canon?s new third generation G3 is a superb update of the excellent Powershot G2.
Review: Photography, whether film or digital, starts with the camera. Cameras are really nothing more than a light tight box with some sort of light sensitive material or device behind an orifice designed to allow light into the box for measured increments of...

G3 : King of the 4 MegaPixel cameras?

by   yusakugo , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Oct 31, 2002
Pros: Too many to list... the G3 almost makes the G2 look bad!
Cons: Price, Weak Flash.
The Bottom Line: Unbelievable, the G3 is something to behold. Has a couple of minor improvements over the Nikon CoolPix 4500 that makes this camera my current favorite.
Review: Unbelievable, the 4-5 MegaPixel consumer market segment has only been around for the past year... maybe year and a half. It's simply unbelievable how fast the digital camera market has advanced in such a short period of time.

Not long ago, I...

G-3 - A Great Prosumer Camera - Updated For Add-on Lenses

by   jwnrw ,  Apr 29, 2003
Pros: Great optics, 4X optical zoom lens, system capabilities.
Cons: Neck strap (hey - gotta say something bad, don't you?)
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent camera with plenty of room to grow for any aspiring or "already there" photographer. It's one great product with plenty of punch for the buck.
Review: Overview
The G-3 is the latest in Canon's G-family of cameras, and like it's
predecessors is a prosumer camera, meaning that it is a mix of the basic functionality of a digital SLR while at the same time providing point-&-shoot...

For the enthusiast

by   boblong ,  Feb 24, 2003
Pros: Extensive list of functions to satisfy every enthusiast, great picture quality
Cons: Optical viewfinder is not worth using
The Bottom Line: If you're an enthusiast used to a quality SLR, you won't be happy with anything else. If you know Canon SLR's, the transition to the G3 is very comfortable!
Review: This was my first foray into digital photography, although I've been a photography enthusiast for years. In the film genre, my last two SLR's were a Canon A1 and a Canon Elan IIe. I've owned the Canon G3 for two months now and have been very pleased...

Last year's best, equals this year's bargain

by   lawman67 ,  Oct 13, 2003
Pros: Outstanding image quality, creative features, HOT SHOE!!!!
Cons: A bit bulky, ISO and JPEG compression in menus instead of on rocker
The Bottom Line: Has all of the creative features an advanced photographer could want. With prefocus the shutter-lag goes away, making this a VERY versatile camera.
Review: The Canon PowerShot G3 is my third digital camera. As many others (48 as I write this) have reviewed the G3 and gone into intimate detail with its features and modes, I will concentrate more on actually using the camera, my experience moving to the G3 ...

Best overall 4MP Digital Camera, better than most 5MP

by   chankit ,  Dec 16, 2002
Pros: supporting FAT32 for CF, Good coloring, fast, 2nd-curtain flash, fast lens, long battery life
Cons: bad View finder, limited zoom, slow auto focus
The Bottom Line: Absolutely highly recommended. There are very few prosumer cameras (4/5MP) in the market that outperform Canon PowerShot G3, both in image quality and features.
Review: First off, G3 is the very first decent digital camera I have owned, not including 640x480 Kodak DCS I bought 6 years ago. I however have taken thousands of pictures with digital cameras from my company, my friends and relatives, including Leica Digilux...

Happiness with the Canon G3

by   jadematthews ,  Dec 17, 2002
Pros: Easy to use, good size and weight, and much more
Cons: View finder obstruction... slow focus
The Bottom Line: Loving this camera for its size and ease of use while providing great quality. A step up from point and shoot camera but easy to use compared to digital SLR.
Review: I was going to purchase this camera online after reading all the technical reviews, but I had problems with the company that I selected online. So, I ended up purchasing this at the local camera shop instead.

I'm incredibly pleased with the...

Is it time to sell my SLR?

by   DrMobots ,  Mar 30, 2003
Pros: fast lens, zoom range, flexibility, ease of use, hot shoe
Cons: a little expensive
The Bottom Line: A control-geek's dream camera easy enough for beginners.
Review: I wanted to take the only digital camera, a Canon S110, for my own use. In order to do this, I need to get my wife another one so she can continue to shoot pictures of my daughter at home. Instead of looking for a model that is comparable to the S110 (a...

Excellent Digital Camera

by   danj58 ,  Sep 22, 2003
Pros: Full Control, Fast 4X lens, Superior Image Quality, Compact Flash I/II Media
Cons: Proprietary Battery, Poor RAW Software, Bulky, Lens Cap
The Bottom Line: Excellent 4-5MP camera for those wanting to move beyond 'auto' mode and take more creative control of their digital images.
Review: BACKGROUND I have been using an entry-level 2MP camera for a couple of years (Finepix 2400). It performs admirably for its category, but decided it was time to go for higher resolution (4-5MP) and more control over exposure parameters. After considerab ...

Best of the 4 megapixel

by   kimbermatic ,  Dec 18, 2002
Pros: Best Digital Camera I have used to date.
Cons: Ships with small CF card of 32mb.
The Bottom Line: If you want to have control over shots and do some pro-sumer type photos this camera is great, but easy enough for the beginner.
Review: Buttons are accessible while taking the picture. Camera feels comfortable in your hand. Side flip viewer screen is great so you don't get those nose prints on the screen. Also there is no red eye. I have taken shots of my cats and not once have I had red...
