Spend your money on a better camera!
Date of Review: May 3, 2007
The Bottom Line: Spend alittle more for a better model of this camera. Canon releases at least 3 - 5 newer versions almost every 3 months.
PowerShot A530 offers impressive performance with a 5.0 Megapixel CCD, 4x optical zoom (approx. 16x combined), 17 shooting modes, VGA movies with sound, 9-point AiAF and ISO 800 for improved low-light flexibility.
I have heard such great things about this camera and borrowed it from my sister-in-law. I read the specs and it was great. You know the whole Canon makes an affordable, high-quality 5.0 megapixel digital camera a reality with the PowerShot A530. Fast, powerful, and impressively compact, the A530 delivers beautiful images and high performance. Best of all, this camera retains all the easy-to-use accessibility that has made the PowerShot A Series so popular. Affordable 5.0 Megapixel digital camera with high-quality Canon 4x Optical Zoom lens. Compact, lightweight body that's easy to bring along wherever you go. New ISO 800 reduces image blur and expands low-light shooting ability. DIGIC II Image Processor and iSAPS Technology for superior image quality, faster operation and lower power consumption. 16:9 Widescreen for full-screen viewing on widescreen TVs and computer monitors. Record your movies in VGA (640 x 480) Movie Mode with sound. Print/Share Button for easy direct printing and downloading, plus ID Photo Print and Movie Print with Canon CP and SELPHY Compact Photo Printers.
It must of been bad luck. As I was viewing the pictures the battery died and the camera shut-off. The lens did not retrack. It had to be sent in to Canon for repair. After speaking to a representative it was a defect with the Canon PowerShot A530. I was so disappointed with the camera and glad that I didn't purchase the same camera. Prior to this happening, my sister-in-law used it on our vacation and the camera worked perfectly. The pictures came out great and the video recording was easy to use and fun. The camera's features are easy to use and uploading the pictures onto a computer was easy too. Overall, the camera is pretty good but the manufacture failed to informed consumers about the troubleshooting glitch.
And about the same time this camera came out. Canon release about three other models. Choose wisely and read all the reviews.
