Author's Review
I have had this camera for over a year now and besides burning through AAs batteries like mad, even the NiMH ones, this camera is great. The recycle time between shots could be shorter, but that's no biggie. I have taken this camera everywhere and it has proven to be perfect for capturing the moment, no matter what my family is doing. I would recommend getting a 1-2 gig SD card as well as purchasing a few sets of NiMH batteries and a charger for it. The image quality is super, clear and clean, with none of the off colors or out of focus that I have had with some of the other digital cameras I have owned. The movie quality is very good, not full screen, but 640x480. Aside from me shaking too much the video are great. So get a light simple tripod if you plan on using it for videos. A 1 gig SD card will allow you an hour of video, which is the max allowed on the camera. I have used it so much so, that I have stopped using the crap jvc video camera and I just switch modes, back and forth on the A530. This is where having the large SD card comes in handy. With iphoto, imovie and idvd, I have been able to make DVDs of family events in no time flat.
The controls are easy to use and intuitive, I like that the switch for switching modes "Camera-to-preview", is not on the wheel and off to the side. Makes it easier.
Customer service is also a big plus, I had to send mine in because the lenses went wonky, they fixed under warranty, no cost to me and no probs or hang ups. Ya gotta love when a company stands behind it products. I would but another Canon product based on the customer service alone.
You won't go wrong with this camera, a great deal.
