Wonderful gift to go along new baby girl...

Pros: Wide mode, compact size, ease of use

Cons: LED lights, need to purchase extra battery & separate charger, hard plastic small viewfinder.

The Bottom Line: Buy this model or successor. B&H June of 2006 I want my first camcorder & I like Canon still cameras. Without hesitation the salesman picked up the Elura 100.

This will not be a particularly technical review. My mind is not quite as able to focus in that way since our baby was born 9 months ago. That relates to this camera in that the camera is fairly intuitive to use. One really can pick it up and flip to "Camera" and press big silver button to start to record.
I typically use the standard 4:3 mode so that I can take still pictures. That function is not available in wide mode. I like this function for emailing, etc. The pictures are not really as nice as those are from my Canon A70 or A720 IS, regardless of the resolution, but good for email and website.
I have used the video to the SD memory card, but the quality isn't as good in that mode.
The zoom is intuitive with several settings. I keep the digital zoom set to 80x, 800x seems to get to pixilated. I use the variable zoom setting so that the more I push, the faster it zooms.
I don't like the lights. The color gets very cool. I think that a camcorder this nice should be able to automatically adjust to a known light source.
I don't use the small viewfinder as there is no soft rubber there and no savings of battery life that I can tell.
Battery life is good. I don't use it a lot, but it stays charged and when charging is needed it charges quickly. I did buy an off-brand 2nd battery (BP-208) and charger (model# SG-IC032) as a back up.
Also, I never remember to close the lens cover. So, I got a 27 mm UV filter (clear) to protect the camera's lens. Cheap insurance!
