Overview
This camera should last me a good long time before I ever have the desire to buy a new one! I am an avid photographer and like SLRs as I've used one since I first began taking photos 30 years ago. SLRs are not for everyone, but if you are serious about taking GREAT photos they are the way to go!
Why Buy it?
Some have asked me why I bought this camera over the hundreds of others out there. Here is my brief list of reasons:
--Speed There is nothing more annoying that pressing the shutter release on a camera and not having the shutter release THAT INSTANT. I will never buy another camera with shutter lag! On top of that, you can hold your finger down on that shutter release and take 10-20 photos one after another! Great for shooting those pesky kids who won't sit still....just blast away!
--Quality If you are taking photos, what's the point in getting ones that are over/underexposed, grainy, etc. This camera takes GREAT photos!
--Functions The long list of functionality of this camera make it extremly versatile. They seem to have thought of just about everything.
--For example, the "Jump" menu during preview--this function allows you to jump through photos you've taken in increments of 10, 100 or by date taken. You might wonder why you'd want to jump 100 photos, but remember, this camera allows you to hold down the shutter release and take 20 photos in 5 seconds! I've blasted through 400 shots in no time! Thank god for large CF cards--I'm using a 2GB card which allows me to take 450 shots on the camera at a time.
--The auto focusing intelligence is great, plus being an SLR it shows you in the lens what it is going to focus on. No more getting home and uploading only to notice on the big screen that the camera chose the wrong focal point.
The Negative Aspects
--For the price, this camera should have come with a wireless remote.
--The LCD screen could be larger, although keep in mind, you only use it for post shot reviewing or camera setup stuff. You don't use it for framing shots like you would on a small digital (at least I don't-you lose the through the lens info--so whats the point?)
