Author's Review
Ever since all the "cool kids" in high school walked around with their 35m cameras around their neck taking pictures for the yearbook I have lusted for a "real" camera.
I had to suffice with my 110 in Brady Bunch orange for years until my husband bought me an Olympus Infinity Hi-lite point and shoot. The Olympus was fine for what it was designed to do which is act as an upgraded 110, but that is another review. (and sweetie..I love that camera too! and THAT is still another review!)
When our son was born last year we were taking a roll of pictures of him nearly every other day. The one major downfall of the Olympus is that it does not have close up capability. So we schlepped off to Best Buys to shop for "real" cameras.
Finally, 20 years after high school I have one!!
The Canon Eos Rebel X.
The rebel is the perfect camera for a shutterbug~wannabe like myself. For about $340.00 it comes with in a package with the body with built in flash, lens, batteries, case, strap It is unbelievably lightweight to carry and the film is easy to load!
You can purchase reasonably priced filters or lenses to go with it once you decide to get more creative so it is a camera a novice can "grow in to".
The kit comes with a well written and easy to follow book of directions. The first day I brought the camera home my 16 year old nephew had already figured out how to do everything I was trying to achieve.
The Rebel offers photos with blurred backgrounds, close ups with great detail, lighting effects, double exposures, continuous photograph capability, and even the classic point and shoot mode!!
Now the first rebel I bought last August decided to cease working during my son's Baptism. We aren't sure why but it was quickly replaced with a new one when we took it back to Best Buys. I also missed a classic picture at my son's first circus with the snake handler when the camera delayed shooting.
I guess i need to read the users guide again..and that I still need more practice to be one of the cool kids with the camera, but already the pictures I have taken with my 110 resume and the Rebel are better than the $1800 dollar photos I paid for of my wedding.
So enjoy being a Rebel and go to the circus and shoot a lion!
