IMPRESSIVE! This Is One Amazing Camera...

I'm going to keep this basic and quick...

I confess I am a previous user of Canon, Nikon and Sony digital cameras. I am NOT a pro but I endorsed and loved digital photography right away from its initial start and with my first JVC 1/2 megapixel camera more than a decade ago (I think).

My favorite Canon cameras have been from their EOS System (high-end Single Lens Reflex - SLR models). I also had once purchased a Canon G9 (model prior to the new G10) but quickly returned it due to its shutter lag (slow).

So, my wife and I took both of our Canon cameras out this past sunny Sunday. It's a Fall day and the sun isn't overhead all day long but angled to the south and into our cameras lens most of the day.

I bring along Canon's 50D with a Canon EFS 17-85mm F/4-5.6 USM IS lens. She brings along her new Canon G10 with its fixed lens of 6.1-30.5mm. Her G10 has a stunning high quality LCD screen on its rear panel as do I on my Canon 50D. My advantage is that I can shoot and see right thru the lens using my viewfinder and she cannot (she must use the LCD screen on the G10 to frame or use the general viewfinder).

We both have tripods and shoot the Fall colors of the Napa Valley in California. We try and emmulate our settings and shoots as closely as we can but both mostly stay on Canon's wonderful AUTO mode because indeed we are novice users.

We get home and review the 200-300 total shots between the two cameras.

STUNNING is the detail and color that comes from her Canon G10 (the G10 now has Canon's newer processing chip named: DIGIC 4). Nearly no BLUR at all from the G10! I'd shoot and get some minor blur with the 50D and some backlit images. She almost never did.

Her G10 was as fast as Florida lightning! The shutter and camera were also ready for the next shot with zero hestitation (set at 10 megs). My Canon 50D simply wasn't the BMW that her Canon G10 was in performance and handling. I was more of the SUV as heavy, bulky and not nearly as stable.

The G10 is built like a tank. Solid. Really solid. It's a POINT & SHOOT camera only but a very high-end one. Ultra user-friendly for quick use and yet offering so many manual settings as well for the experienced user.

This is a camera I would fully trust on a major trip say to Italy or France or on a major long cruise where I wanted the best images possible yet a camera somewhat small in size. Her G10 scored so well using its basic flash on indoor shots while my upscale 50D did not.

The Canon G10 wins me over as the best camera Canon has ever accomplished for the very minimal amount of money they are charging for this exceptional piece of perfection.

An excellent choice indeed. Ideal for expert, novice or beginner.
