Since 1993 I've been a hobbyist and sometimes professional photographer. This camera has given me some real freedom to take some of the most beautiful shots I've ever taken.

I love the menu systems. One covers the types of system settings you will rarely use. The other can be nicely tucked into the main display with one button access. This covers settings you use to change manual shots like ISO and shutter speeds, drive modes, aperture, etc. In a very short time this menu became second nature for me. I can fly through it, choose my settings quickly and catch more of the rare shots.

The swivel screen is extremely useful. Aim the camera almost any direction, including backward at yourself and you still see the LCD.

I had a Canon A95 and an A540 before this. Both were great cameras and had the DIGICII processor (like the EOS rebel SLR). After seeing it's performance I currently WILL NOT buy a digital without the DIGICII processor (exclusive to Canon).

I ruined my A95 by getting it wet and sandy on a beach. Being an electronics engineer and technician I attempted to repair it. After taking it apart I could easily see the internal design and construction were excellent. I dropped my A540 a few times and it still performed beautifully. Canon has not cut any corners on these cameras.

Digitals tend to use batteries fairly quickly. I use Energizer, 2500 mAh, rechargeable batteries (they charge in 15 minutes) and I get great battery life.
