Author's Review
Ah, the glories of winning at the race track and slot machines. Enter the wonderful world of accounting for your win/loss ratio for the IRS with Canon P23-DH
Before starting
Remove the insulation tape and press the RESET key before use? All I want to do is add up a column of figures.
General Maintenance
They list 8 different items which include do not leave in direct sunlight? Only use when paper roll is loaded? Avoid using in place where there are iron fillings? In case of electrical fault [i.e. SMOKE] disconnect immediately? Im good with most of this except that iron fillings thing. What is that all about?
Clean with a dry soft cloth, turn off before unplugging from electrical source and do not stack things on top of the machine. These things I understand.
Automatic Power-Off function
One of the greatest things ever invented, this machine turns itself off when sitting idle for over 7 minutes. I dont know where they came up with the 7 minute clause, but Im O.K. with that, as 7 minutes is about my attention span.
Decimal Point Selector Switch
What? I just want to add up a column of figures.
This feature includes a floating decimal point feature. If it knew what it was for Id try it just to watch it float.
Rounding Switch
Used for rounding up, or rounding off, or rounding down to that pre-selected decimal thingy. How did this get so complicated?
Power, Print, Item Count, Rate Set Switch
The power thing we understand right? Off is, well, off and on is, of course, on. But now we have power on/print off or even power on/print on. Actually this is a nice feature. You can just add figures where you don't need a print out. I on the other hand think the IRS would like to see it in print. And an item count, so we can see just how many things we have added up in our column. That just leaves the Rate Set function button. Im still staring at it.
Tax Calculation Function
This has two steps: add tax key and deduct tax key. Now what is the correct tax calculation?
Cost-Sell Margin Calculation
If you were using this for a business, this would give you the cost, selling price and profit margin amount. Or as they say Enter the value of any 2 items to obtain the balance value item. Huh?
Calendar & Clock Function
Not only will this tell the IRS the day I totaled my receipts, it will also let them know that I was up until 3 a.m. to do it!
Overflow
If your number gets too big, you get an E and a printed dotted line. I havent gotten to this stage yet and hopefully I wont. The keyboard locks up and further operation is impossible until you correct your overflow problem. Similar to eating too much I assume.
The Specs
It has a calculation capacity of 12 digits, it is 9-17/64" x 6-7/64" x 2-11/64" and weighs 14.46 oz. Interestingly enough they include an operation temperature which is 32-104 F. Why?
It uses standard size calculator paper which slides easily on the extended paper holder arm. To replace the ink roller, remove cover plate over display area and drop in new ink roller.
There you go, Calculator 101. Now wasnt that fun?
