iPod Touch: Almost an iPhone

The Bottom Line: Pick it up if you can stay connected on wi-fi.
I love my iPod Touch. It's exactly what I was hoping it would be: an iPhone w/o the phone. Don't get me wrong, I also love the iPhone. However, I'm also extremely happy with my current phone service and cannot afford the monthly rates that AT&T charges for service. With that in mind, I bought the iPod touch hoping to get all of the features of the iPhone w/o the phone. Including the january software update, that's definitely what I got. As an MP3 player, the touch shines. The interface is very easy to use and well-suited to the touch screen. Although the storage is relatively small, I've never minded choosing which songs go on my iPod. I don't need 20 GBs of music all the time, and having more songs on it only means more clutter to sift through for me. The other applications are equally well-designed. Each one takes advantage of the touch screen well and is extremely functional. The one thing I would say is to think hard about this purchase if you don't live around a lot of wi-fi. Being in an urban area and on campus all the time, I can stay constantly connected to the internet w/o paying AT&T. However, if you couldn't stay online then most of the apps are relatively useless. In that case, you may just want to save a little more to spring for the iPhone.
