Beautiful faxes, but ludicrously susceptible to damage from static electricity
Date of Review: Mar 1, 2004
The Bottom Line: Stay away from this fragile stinker of a machine.
I can sum up my review in just 2 bullet points.
1) When functioning this machine sends and receives quickly and beautifully. The send queue allows you to process several jobs even while a previous job is still being sent and the receive queue holds faxes even when you let the machine run out of paper.
2) The machine is about as tough as an pre-cracked eggshell. We have had one repaired, then replaced, then had the replacement fixed only to have it go bad again due to its inability to exist in a seasonably dry environment.
When "zapped" by static, such as you would generate walking across a carpeted floor, the machine's control panel would be fried, leaving a receive-only fax machine. The first repair, on our out-of-warranty unit cost $400 to replace the control board, only to have it die again days later. We then replaced the entire unit with a new machine, only to have it fail the same way, get repaired, then fail the same way again!
We checked the grounding of its plug, installed an anti-static mat that users would be standing upon before using the machine & even put a humidifier in the room in order to try to get rid of static all to no avail.
This machine, and so far as I know the other models on the same chassis, cannot be relied upon to function from day to day.
Zero Stars.
