One the best point-and-shoot cameras in the Canon SD series, featuring 8 megapixels and stunning design. Any user familiar with Canon cameras will definitely fall in love with this compact, lightweight camera. It is portable, produces great pictures, and costs much less compared to other cameras. I purchased mine at Best Buy for $250, and I bought it with coupons so it was even less. Most 8 megapixel cameras will cost more, and perhaps not match the SD1100's features.
Any interesting new take on the this model is the variety of colors it comes in: blue, gold, silver, brown (more of a mahogany/burgundy), and pink. The size is perfect for people who want a camera to fit into their bag or pocket. Also, a feature that I find ingenious about this camera is a little dent/nook, near the edge of the camera. It fits the edge of your index finger when taking a picture perfectly for a smooth feel. One note I would add is that the LCD screen is glossy, so it smudges easily and may scratch. Thus, I would recommend getting a plastic seal for the LCD. They're simply clear plastic stickers to protect screens, and they're very cheap, so I believe it would be worth to get some to keep your LCD smooth and shiny.
It's battery life is great, and it's easy to charge. It uses an SD memory card, which plugs into many laptops and CVS photo booths.
The pictures come clear and crisp, as usual with Canon. You can take pictures in a variety of environments, and you will see that the pictures will come out just as great in any place. However, to accomplish this, you must play around with the settings. For example, in a dark environment, you may want to increase the ISO setting, which allows more light in. There are many more features to this camera, as well as some preset settings for nighttime pictures and much more. One feature I find artistically appealing is that it can take a black and white picture with one color visible. For example, I can take a black and white picture of something, and everything else except all the yellow in that picture will be black and white. Overall, the pictures will be clear and sharp for everyday use.
The shutter speed is fast, but don't expect 5 shots in 5 seconds. The normal delay time is at most 2-3 seconds. I find taking the second picture is very quick and the flash recharges just as promptly. It also opens up very quickly after you hit the on/off button. Bottom line: you won't miss something waiting for this camera to start up.
If you're looking for a camera with loaded manual functions, this is not it. You should look at the Digital SLR and EOS Rebels. However, personally, this is one of the best cameras out there to date, in terms of value and performance. It's probably only going to get cheaper, and I would definitely say if you're looking for a regular digital camera, this will blow you away. A great combination of low price, outstanding picture quality, and portability make this an unbeatable camera.
