Awesome DSLR

Date of Review: Nov 5, 2007

The Bottom Line:  The best consumer DSLR money can buy.
I returned my Canon G9 and bought this Canon 40D instead. A much better camera.
If you want true quality photos, even the best P/S won't hold a candle to a nice or even entry level DSLR. I love my new tool as it finally has dust removal technology, live view, and a large 3" LCD. The 28-135mm lens is a great all around lens, although misses true wide angle capability. I wrote about my frustration with point and shoots on my blog and why I opted for this new 40D. I also thought of the XTi but if you add a nice lens with the same range you almost get the 40d for an extra $200 and in my eyes this is well worth it.
I tried many pro P/S cameras, the Canon S70, S80, Canon SD900, and lastly the G9. Neither really satisfied my taste. I briefly had a Canon 30D, very nice camera, but dust sticking to the sensor became an issue for me. Now Canon has developed a "dust shaker" technology that rids most of the dust every time the camera is turned on or off.
Once you move up to a DSLR you will know what you been missing with even the most advanced Point and shoot.
