Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM - The Most Practical Canon Telephoto Lens (Non-L)

Date of Review:  Jan 24, 2008
The Bottom Line: The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM is an excellent bargain considering what you get. It is a very practical lens.
Review: For a while I have wanted to complete my camera lens collection. I had the 10-135mm range covered beautifully by my Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM primary lens, and Tokina 10-17mm f3.5-4.5 AT-X 107 AF DX ultra-wide angle fisheye lens. All I...

Canon EF 75-300mm f4/5.6 IS USM lens

Date of Review:  Sep 7, 2005
The Bottom Line: First lens for this range? This is great value. Not perfect but at around #350 and not #1,350 you are getting plenty of lens for your money.
Review: When buying a new SLR and building your lens collection from scratch, most people will look for a utility lens that covers thew range around the 28-90mm area and the short to long telephoto around the 70-300mm length. After that they might go for...

Very nice lens, great photos, a little heavy

Date of Review:  Aug 23, 2007
The Bottom Line: Fantastic images and a great image stabilization engine make this a must for the amateur photographer who wants more than the standard lens can provide.
Review: To save you looking up a more detailed overview of this lens I have included it here:

The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM telephoto zoom lens has been developed to meet the high-performance standards that today's photographers demand. The...

Good lens - when it works

Date of Review:  Apr 8, 2009
The Bottom Line: Given care to address the lenses failings, it's quite a good lens. I don't recommend it for professional use.
Review: I have had this lens for just over a year. I can take some absolutely fantastic images with it. It does take time to get it working each time though.

It has two main foibles - first the IS goes bananas. Second the image quality at 300mm is...

Great lens, works great on my Digital Rebel

Date of Review:  Jan 31, 2005
Review: This is a very nice lens.

Sturdy.

With the Image Stablizier, you can take more clear shots without a tripod.

An excellent telephoto lens

Date of Review:  Oct 11, 2007
Review: I use my Rebel XTi mostly for auto racing photos and recently added the 70-300 mm USM IS to my lens collection. This is a really fantastic lens for my purpose. It tracked the fast moving cars accurately, colors are very nice, and the lens is quite...

Good all around zoom lens for Canon DSLRs

Date of Review:  Jul 5, 2008
The Bottom Line: Get this lens if you don't like the hassles carrying an L and want a quality all around zoom lens with IS.
Review: I'm just a novice who is part of the huge wave of consumers buying DSLRs on the market now. I bought the Canon Rebel XT series, one of the most popular models.

Anyone who buys a DSLR does it to get the flexibility of using different...

Wouldn't be without during events

Date of Review:  Jun 2, 2009
Review: This is a very good lens for an amateur to intermediate photographer. The 300 range is very nice for event pictures. I use it for my son s tee-ball games. I have used it for brother s graduation from basic training. I captured a lot of photos that...

It a keeper

Date of Review:  Mar 6, 2006
Review: I bought this lens to replace a very low cost Sigma 70-300 DL lens that was a bit soft past 200mm. I also found that many of my pictures had some motion blur, especially ones taken at dusk or dawn. The Canon with image stabilization would fix that...
