Canon EF 70-300mm IS DO USM: Just DO it!?

Date of Review:  May 8, 2005
The Bottom Line: An excellent lens for a premium price, but slightly less versatile than the hype suggests.
Review: So you just got that amazing entry level professional dSLR (EOS 20D) and finally grew out of the kit lens. You even upgraded to a more versatile universal zoom lens and a dedicated portrait / macro lens. Now may be the time to discover that you need...

Worthless piece of junk

Date of Review:  Oct 11, 2007
The Bottom Line: Worthless lens, too expensive, poor image quality, poor construction, heavy, lens creep when pointed upwards
Review: I read all the reviews and looked at the pictures submitted and then decided to buy this lens. I was going on a three week safari from Cape Town thru Namibia, Botswana and ending in Victoria Falls. I passed through Etosha and Chobe National Parks on...

A good, But not Great, Lens.

Date of Review:  Mar 28, 2008
The Bottom Line: If you need a small lens with this range, go for it. But, Understand the tradeoff!
Review: The Canon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO is a pretty impressive lens in some ways- But falls short in some areas as well. I wanted to try it, as it has a nice zoom range (70-300mm), is fairly small and light, and has both the Ultrasonic Focus and Image...

This is a great lens!

Date of Review:  Jun 3, 2007
Review: I have had this lens for about a month now. I also own the 70-200 L IS 2.8 which is a great lens as well, but big and very heavy. I wanted something that is easy to carry around, I also wanted Image stabilization and a little more length and not...

Quick, Quiet, with Image Stabilization

Date of Review:  Jun 27, 2006
The Bottom Line: Compare sizes in store to see if the 'smaller' form is worth the extra cost over a non-DO lens. But, go for IS, whichever lens you get.
Review: Simple. I like it.

I wanted to replace my Tamron 70-300. The Tamron was OK, and I had gotten it because for a while the Canon 70-300 USM lenses weren't available. My problem was, the Tamron didn't focus quick enough.

I wanted to...

Date of Review:  Sep 21, 2005
Review: I bought this lens for the reason most users are probably thinking of buying this lens (assuming image and build quality are givens): the size. The idea of having a 300mm lens that is only 4" long was hard to resist. While many things about the lens...
