The Shake Down of the Canon EF 28-135 IS Lens

by   viper1963 , top reviewer in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Jun 24, 2000
Pros: Light weight, Easy to Use, Fast & Whisper Quiet Focusing
Cons: Expensive at $500
Review: The Canon EF 28-135 3.5-5.6 USM* Image Stabilization IS lens is one of several IS lenses available from Canon. There is the EF 75-300/4-5.6 USM IS, EF 100-400/4-5.6L USM IS, EF 300/2.8L USM IS, EF 300/4L USM IS, EF 400/2.8L IS and EF 600/4L USM...

Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM - Great All-Around Lens!

by   soupcraze ,  Dec 16, 2007
Pros: Excellent image quality; Image Stabilization; Excellent focal length range
Cons: Plasticky, whereas the 28-105mm f3.5-4.5 feels more solid; Heavier; IS eats battery
The Bottom Line: The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is a fantastic lens for the semi-professional. You will not be disappointed.
Review: I am an amateur photographer that has recently purchased my first digital SLR camera. I have the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, and am very satisfied with it. I have gone through two primary lenses before coming to the Canon EF 28-135mm lens. The ...

The Canon EF 35-135mm USM is the "Affordable" Alternative

by   profaudio1 ,  Mar 29, 2006
Pros: Image Stabilization is a nice and useful feature in some circumstances.
Cons: Fantastic lens, but a little "salty" for photogs on a budget.
The Bottom Line: If you can't afford this awesome lens, you could look for a nice used EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM as an excellent alternative.
Review: The Canon EF 28-135 IS USM is a GREAT lens, but it might be a little bit too expensive for some photogs on a limited budget. The Canon EF 35-135mm f/4-5.6 USM is the "Affordable" Alternative. This very compact telephoto zoom lens is relatively light and ...

In support of the one lens theory?

by   jedi29 ,  Feb 28, 2005
Pros: 5x zoom, IS, range on 35mm, sharp
Cons: FOV on Canon consumer dSLR, zoom creep, slow f3.5-5.6 aperture
The Bottom Line: A superb 35mm lens that crosses over to digital with most of its positive attributes except the wide angle coverage on APS size sensors.
Review: Around the same time last year I finally had enough ends to make the jump into SLR photography with the Canon 300d digital SLR. I knew that getting an SLR would lighten my wallet quickly as I would have to build a system that fit my shooting style. ...

Great wide range zoom

by   ADDam ,  May 9, 2000
Pros: Image Stabilized, Ultrasonic Motor, wide zoom range
Cons: IS Uses a lot of battery power, maximum aperture could be wider
Review: CANON 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Canon's new line of image stabilized(IS) lenses has changed the rules of 35mm photography. One can now shoot hand held, where a tripod was previously needed.
I use this lens for wedding candids and...

Best walk-around zoom for Canon

by   northrup ,  May 10, 2000
Pros: Looks cool, Image Stabilization is great
Cons: Heavy, clumsy
Review: I bought this lens to replace the 28-80mm zoom that came with my Elan IIE. I'm not going to list statistics for the lens; I'm just going to describe my subjective experience with it.

I chose this lens only after HUGE amounts of research. I...

A Very Good All-a-round lens

by   turp ,  Nov 27, 2002
Pros: The Image Stabilizer. Sharp results. Extended zoom range.
Cons: A little slow at f5.6 @ 135mm
The Bottom Line: This is a great travel and candid lens. The 28-135 zoom range make this a lens you will keep on you camera.
Review: I purchased this lens because I like the 28-100 zoom range. I do a lot of available light photos so the "IS" appealed to me.

The Photo reviews I read on this lens were impressive. I bought it and the reviews were justified. The "IS"...

Extremely useful lens

by   gosoon ,  Oct 27, 2002
Pros: Excellent range, fast autofocus, image stabilizer is awesome!
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: Image stabilizer makes this lens extremely useful for general purpose work.
Review: I have had this lens for about 18 months now, and I have never regretted buying it. This was my first lens when I switched from Pentax to Canon, and I immediately fell in love with Canon's USM technology -- it focuses so fast! (That was the reason I...

Great lens for film-based or digital SLR camera

by   mnyadi ,  Oct 27, 2003
Pros: Affordable, sturdy, good optics
Cons: a bit heavy, would be better if f/2.8
The Bottom Line: An all round lens for both your ordinary film-based or digital SLR Canon camera. Good optics.
Review: I have been using this lens for over 4 years and it never failed me. Now that I am switching over to digital SLR, the new Canon EOS 300D, I am still using it for my primary lens. Only on specific conditions that I am using my other lenses, especially for ...
