Almost Perfect

Date of Review: Jan 16, 2004

The Bottom Line:  Almost perfect,I can't give 5 stars because of some annoying cons
Firstly, lets talk about size of these magnificent creature..
Yt is big...oh yes definitely big , thick and heavy for hiking or hand holding. But you must not wait from such a quality lenses and weather resistant 18x50 binocular to be light isn't it?

Anyway it is really good binocular with the YS..18x50 binocular You should have a very stable tripod or YS function!!Otherwise not possible to watch or observe anything because,of course, shaking.Really when I using it I always push the button of YS.Yt is really working. You must try before you believe. All of a sudden everything is getting stabile and shake free!!!Than you can see everything, with all the details.Or use a sturdy good tripod(it must be heavy one because with light tripod is not working.I have manfrotto clb55)Ys function off and you have more resolutions even.Really when the YS on.you loose a little detail. But YS off and tripod use than everything is starting to shine.

Yf you have a Canon Slr Camera user, you will know what the L Series Pro. Lenses.I am sure they put exactly same glass in this Binocular. This 18x50Canon YS has some of the top notch glass in his class. And when you are outside observing, especially at the some little sunny days, than you will see what I meant. These bino can show better than your eyes :) This is no joke...Try it..

And these Binocular has a good sealing for challenging weather.I used at some heavy rain without any problem.I washed it even(not a laundry washing of course :)).No problem. He has a very good sealing. You can see and feel immediately when it is in your hand.Feel the quality.

At your hand , it is comfortable, material what they used is soft feeling but as I told you before,YT YS HEAVY...10 minutes hand holding without any support is good for daily body building !!!!But than you get tired of it.You must use it with the tripod or you should sit at the very good sofa for supporting your arms.

Do not expect miracle...you can't see clearly star galaxy or space alien with it!!!!...Yt is Canon's most powerfull binocular but ,remember it is still 18x50!!! good for full moon maybe for little bit detail but than nothing.Yt is good for distance birding or observing something.or I don't know, something you want to see more close moe clear...but not stars or etc....Yf you are serious about astro or observing space galaxy..than take a telescope not binocular...

lets talk about what is cons or turn off!!

This Binocular is really battery eaters.Because of YS function.Even expensive and powerful Duracell(2 AA battery) can hold it for 45 min. maximum.Cold days not more than 20 min.Than it is gone.Take a new one batterie's.That' s why if you are hiking with it or going to see baseball or basketball game take a few extra powerful batteries with you.Or I have a better advice..I bought 3 pair of 2100mAH Rechargeable Varta Photo Accu AA batterys with the charger. One pair of batterys is good for 2 continous YS on hours!! This is really good. These batteries are expensive, but believe me they are paying back in a very short time. These batteries for Digital Battery eaters Camera !!! These 18x50 is no difference than that Digital Cameras when the YS on.

And poor Canon couldn't put front lens protective.Nothing...From package you can have Binocular, eye piece covers(very stupid one),soft bag for bino, neck strap, and user manual. Can you believe this ??at this price range of binoculars(Canon's Most expensive one)doesn't have any protection for their very expensive front lenses....

And back side of bino,it is one battery compartment. For opening it, you can use a small coin or something like that. But this part is very weak too.You can damage it very easily.Yt could be more strong.Because Bino is eating batteries regularly, you have to open it all the time for a fresh batteries. But it is so weak.Mine is damaged already...

As a final word.....Am I advising you to buy it?? Oh yes definitely yes...This is piece of art...When you look with it something..it is showing much better than natural looking..color is vivid, without too much vignetting,at the night , even dark n
ight, you can still watch what you want,it is robust and so on.I have it from 6 months and I am enjoying all the time.Anyway at this price range and with the YS function, you cant find better ones.

Try it just once, but before, check your bank account twice...
