This High Quality and Affordable Canon Lens is a "Must Have"

Date of Review:  Jan 8, 2007
The Bottom Line: Have a Canon SLR? Looking for a great lens for something less than a lot of money? Check out the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro/Portrait lens.
Review: I am a somewhat versed, but definitely not professional, hobbyist photographer. As such it is my lot in life to improve my equipment--my lenses, my camera, my flash, etc. This is a never-ending job. One that exists for all photographers with SLR...

Canon's 100mm Macro lens is a keeper.

Date of Review:  Jul 19, 2009
The Bottom Line: Sharp pictures, good price and good speed, but not quite "pro" grade build nor the fastest portrait lens.
Review: Optical quality has become more and more of an issue as digital sensors are more dense with any new release and already surpassing standard film grain. Hence the sharpness (a.k.a. contrast) of a lens is more important than ever. Prime lenses are at...

For A Few Dollars More?

Date of Review:  Oct 18, 2003
The Bottom Line: Excellent image quality, fast focusing?
Review: It was Thursday that I bought a Sigma 105mm macro-focusing lens. Friday, the auto-focusing mechanism failed and I upgraded (paid a bunch more money) to Canon's 100mm, f:2.8, macro lens.

I immediately headed out of the camera store with my...

An honorary "L" series lens!

Date of Review:  Oct 24, 2006
The Bottom Line: I cannot recommend this lens highly enough
Review: There is a short list of lenses that every amateur photographer should have in their bag-- basically, a long zoom and a short zoom. When I recently purchased my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L, I had satisfied my desire for a high quality long zoom, and I...

So sharp you'll cut yourself!

Date of Review:  May 16, 2005
The Bottom Line: Top quality, stunning images, probably the sharpest lens I have ever used! This is not just great, it's exceptional!
Review: Well, after lots of umming and aahing around (or as my wife called it 'faffing around'!) I could not put off the decision any longer. I have always loved macro but have felt my limits were being exposed by using just extension tubes or close up...

Puts the World in Perspective

Date of Review:  Nov 29, 2008
The Bottom Line: Make this your first prime lens. Open up the whole world of seeing and shooting close-in subjects.
Review: You've heard "sharpness" tossed around, and you may think you know what that means. But unless you've been shooting with L-series lenses, you'll see so much more detail than before, you'll have a whole new appreciation for a "sharp"...

So Sharp It Will Cut Your Eyelashes

Date of Review:  Mar 24, 2007
The Bottom Line: Definitely "thumbs up"! I recommend this lens with great confidence to anyone wanting to upgrade their glass without mortgaging the kids' college fund.
Review: Photography - buy a camera and start shooting, right? Not if you are serious about it! I have owned cameras since I was in grammar school and the passage of time has taken me from a Kodak to a digital SLR. I have a family to consider so adding to my...

the little macro that could

Date of Review:  Jun 17, 2002
The Bottom Line: a great small compact 1 to 1 ratio lens makes small things appear huge.
Review: This is one sharp tight little macro lens. This lens brings small tiny things up to life size 1 to 1 ratio.
its small compactness is nice to cary around with you in the field.

Several things I would recommend you get if you buy this...

Worth it to buy this EF Canon lens!

Date of Review:  Feb 12, 2004
Review: I use a Canon 10D and wanted to get a solid performing macro lens. The Canon EF100mm Macro lens is fantastic! Pictures are crisp with true color rendition, and AF works superbly. The 1:1 image ratio makes this a very practical macro lens for any...

Great Lens, Great Price

Date of Review:  Aug 2, 2004
Review: This is truly a great lens. Up until this point, all of my lenses were zoom lenses and I was worried that I may be at a disadvantage shooting with a prime. I was wrong. This lens, forced me to rethink some of my shots, and it forced me to move...
