I ordered this scanner from an online discounter at the recommendation of a friend. It took about 10 min. to get out of the box, set up on my desk, and install the software (included). The directions were easy to follow.
The scanner connects to your computer via USB and no separate power cord is required, which is a nice feature if you already have a lot of peripherals clogging your work area (like me). The scanner itself is compact -- again a nice feature if your work area is already cluttered with other computer gadgets or space is limited.
The software included provides the ability to scan directly to a PDF file, a printer, email, OCR (text recognition), or file. If you don't want to be bothered controlling the scanner through the software, the scanner has 3 buttons for instant scanning, copying (to printer), and attaching to a new email.
The time required to scan documents and photos varies by the resolution selected, but based on my experience with other scanners, I would say that this certainly falls within the acceptable range (not too slow) for the average consumer. If you are going to be scanning a high volume of documents or photos, however, this machine is probably not for you.
On the whole, this scanner appears to be an excellent value and I would recommend the scanner to the average consumer for home or light business use.
