The Bottom Line: Highly recommend for price/image quality. So inexpensive you should upgrade often.
I have had fine luck with this printer. It operates smoothly; the colors are great. It is an excellent upgrade to the IP1500, which used color reservoirs instead of integrated tanks/printheads. I had trouble with the ip1500 drying out, and the internals were rendered useless eventually; I ended up trashing that one.
I get about thirty 8X10 images on a tank of color ink in standard resolution on glossy. The Office Depot glossy photo paper works great with this printer. The "ink" out signal is pretty accurate, although there still is a little mileage left if you are not printing color-intensive jobs. I have had Canons exclusively for the past 5 years and would highly recommend them for the price/value.
Although I suspect other printers have something similar, I particularly like the Canon Easy-Webprint toolbar for IE. I usually use FireFox when I want a page printout, but print still sometimes runs off the page (even with Firefox). The Easy-Webprint for IE always makes sure a page is within the margins. This is great when I want to catalog my Ebay sales.
Cleaning and alignment functions are great. I would only give one low mark and it is not a signifacant one. After much use, I noticed a small black blotch in the upper left corner of the page. This went away after cleaning a few times (using the maintenance software).
I highly recommend this Canon. My latest is an MP-470 all-in one for the office (uses the same cartridges...what luck!)
