The best portable printer!
Date of Review: Jul 5, 2000
I bought my Canon bubble jet (BJC-80) printer sometime in 1997 for about $270. There are several reasons why I love this printer so much. Being an auditor, I always bring this printer along with my IBM laptop to my clients. With this printer, I can pretty much do anything at my client's site as if I am in my office. The printer is very small and it can easily fit into my computer bag. The printing speed is also amazingly fast. Despite the size of the printer, it can hold about 30 sheets at once. So, you do not have to keep feeding the paper. The printer rarely creates a paper jam. Another amazing feature of this printer is that it can be used without using a printer cable. Yes, the remote (infrared) feature allows you to print without a cable. (Of course, your computer also has to have the feature.)
I am also amazed how durable this printer is. Having the printer for over three years and using it almost everyday, I never had any problems. Also, if you go to one of major computer stores, you can find the exact same printer for almost the same price today. That means that the market value for the BJC-80 did not depreciate much for the past three years. What kind of a computer related device can retain its market value for almost three years?
I also discovered that if you are going to use a black ink cartridge for BJC-80, you should use BJC-100's printer driver. Otherwise the BJC-80's printer driver will bug you with a prompt stating that a non-color cartridge was detected and ask you to continue or not.
Each black ink cartridge costs about $7 to $8 and it comes with three packs. I tried to use a non-Canon brand cartridge once (CDW cartridge for Cannon), which created a disaster to the quality of my printed materials. Trust me. Just stay away from those CDW brand cartridges. They are not even more expensive than Cannon cartridges.
I recommend this printer to every laptop users!
