Excellent Spotting Scope value
Date of Review: Nov 4, 2000
After much research into spotting scopes for hunting, shooting and general viewing I intended to buy a Fujinon or Kowa based on their excellent reputations. A sales rep suggested this Elite scope as every bit the quality of my other choices but at a much better price. He was right on every count.
The scope is clean, bright and rugged. The zoom is a bit stiff but smooth and positive. (Note that focus is not maintained throughout the zoom range as it is in some high-end rifle scopes). The lenses are very sharp with absolutely no distortion around the edges. Color correction is excellent; maybe a shade less than full ED or flourite but this scope is less than half the cost of most ED's! Light gathering is excellent as well.
Although I do not have the ability to compare, this scope seems much brighter than the typical compact spotting scope. In fact, this scope seems brighter than most of the 80's I've seen. I understand that Bausch & Lomb is now Bushnell so I was a bit worried about the somewhat middle-class reputation of the optics. Boy, was I wrong!
If this Elite scope is typical of what Bushnell is capable of producing they will quickly change any misgivings other sportsmen may have. I enthusiastically recommend this product to anyone looking for upper quality optics at a ridiculously fair price.
