The Marine Star has a day and date counter that can be set by pulling and twisting the fob. Although if the hour or minute hand is at the 3 o'clock position, it can obscure the date/time counter.
The fob can be screwed tightly into the watch to make it water resistant. The Marine Star is resistant up to 200 meters. It has a rotating bezel that, if set to the minute hand, can time up to sixty minutes. On the bezel, the first ten minutes are broken up into one minute segments. After that, every five minutes is marked on the bezel.
The watch face will glow in the dark, but don't expect the complete readability that you would get out of a digital watch. Sitting in a darkened movie theater, the watch will not be readable in the dark by the end of the movie.
Several days after I purchased the watch, the battery died. I took it to a local jeweler who replaced the battery for a small fee. I've had the watch for two years now and have not had to change the battery since.
The watch face is a beautiful, silky blue with white divots of several shapes instead of numbers. This may be off putting for those who like physical numbers on their watches, but I think it makes the watch more striking.
The stainless steel band looks great and works very well. It is a men's watch and thus both the band and the watch are thicker than a normal watch.
While the Marine Star costs a bit more than I was used to paying for a watch, it has certainly not disappointed me in the least since I purchased it.
