Horrible Product, Worst Customer Service
Date of Review: May 6, 2008
The Bottom Line: Stay away from Buffalo NAS - it does not work, it fails, it does not recover, and their customer service is the worst.
This NAS unit was the worst nightmare product I have had to deal with in over 20 years of work in this industry. To start off with, it was not easy to configure into our network. It took hours to make it work within a simple small business network. It cost me over $400 in IT consultant labor to install! Once configured, it ran OK for 13 months when Drive #2 failed. The RAID fail over was supposed to protect our data, but the Buffalo RAID software failed to recover after installing the replacement drive. What followed was a $5000 data recovery to get our files back. Buffalo promised a replacement unit without questioning the purchase date because their rep admitted that their "RAID recovery" software was faulty - but when I sent it in for an RMA, they changed their tune and held it for three months pending proof of purchase. When I sent that in, they returned the unit untouched as being out of warranty - with no note or explanation enclosed as to why the RMA was denied! In summary - difficult to install, failed one month out of warranty, RAID fail over did not work, customer service rep lied about sending out new unit, held in RMA for three months, $5000 data recovery, not one ounce of recovery from Buffalo! Can it get any worse than that?
