Jack Nicholson Shines in The Bucket List

by   Birdfeather , top reviewer in Pets, Business & Technology at Epinions.com ,   Oct 17, 2008

Pros:  A+ acting, directing. Outstanding performances by Nicholson and Freeman.

Cons:  Could be depressing for some.

The Bottom Line:  A serious movie about life and death.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

The Bucket List was a movie that I put off watching. I had heard good things about it, but knowing the storyline, I decided that it would be a sure fire "tearjerker". I finally got around to moving it up to the top of my Netflix queue after seeing the previews a couple of times. I found the movie to be very entertaining and thought provoking as well.

Background/Plot

The Bucket List
stars Jack Nicolson as Edward Cole, a successful businessman who also owned the hospital he is admitted to. His roomate is Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman), a family man who has cancer. Both men become friends as they go through treatments and eventually learn they are both terminally ill and have only months to live. They decide to experience life to the fullest after Edward discovers a list that Carter had made that listed the things he wanted to accomplish before be died.

My Thoughts on The Bucket List

Nicolson and Freeman both turned in wonderful performances in this movie. The story showed how two men from different walks of life and societies can indeed become freinds. To me this was an important message and part of the movie. So many negative things occur in the world today and it was refreshing to see a movie that was basically about dying turning into a celebration of life.

The movie was emotional, as I expected it to be, but wasn't a tearjerker either. The plot is predictable and this is the only "con" that I can come up with for The Bucket List.

The viewer is treated to action, humor and great scenery as the two men go on their journey of life doing and seeing the things on their combined "bucket list".

Rob Reiner directed the movie and did an excellent job. It opens your eyes to life and death and makes you think about what you want to do or should do before your time is up--very thought provoking!

The Bucket List is rated PG-13. I would only recommend it for mature teens because of the subject matter. Younger children may find it disturbing.

Recommendation

I highly recommend The Bucket List as an entertaining movie filled with laughs that will also leave you thinking about your own "bucket list".
