Stay Away if you use a Mac (10.4)

Pros: Great printing. Good price.

Cons: The Mac Support SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

The Bottom Line: If you are a PC person this is worth a look. If you are a Mac person you need to look elsewhere.

I purchased this printer a couple of days before (4/25/05) Mac OS X 10.4 hit the shelves. The printer was quite good at what it did until I received my copy of 10.4 on 4/29/05 (that is the day the OS was released). Granted much of the software was PC only (such as the Word plug-in) but they did have a version of the label writing software that was made for the Mac. Then 4/29/05 comes along and I upgrade to 10.4 and the software that prints the labels does not work anymore. I thought this was a bit strange since Apple had announced 10.4 over 1 year before it was released AND Brother is a company that makes Mac products but OK. I waited for a bit and nothing. I contact Brother's customer support and I get back canned responses (informing me that the label printing software does not work with OS 10.4. . . DUH!!! this is why I am writing no?). After writing a sharp e-mail I FINALLY get a response that the software would be available sometime during JULY. It is now AUG 7th and there is NO software from Brother. I still cannot use the QL-500 and I have no idea when I will be able to either.

The printer gets 5 Stars. The customer service gets 3. The Mac support gets 1 STAR!!!!!

Don't be cheap like me (...). Go with a company that takes their Mac support seriously or you might have a lump of plastic that sits on your desk for months.

UPDATE: It is now AUG 29 AND STILL NO SOFTWARE!!!!
