not the greatest machine in the world

Date of Review: May 22, 2008

The Bottom Line:  Get another brand. For a similar price there has got to be something better (Panasonic maybe)!
Let me start out by saying that I hate all fax machines (and I'm quite sure they feel the same way about me)... the whole process seems archaic to me in this electronic age.

We have this fax machine at work (very small office). There are several things about it I do not like. Firstly, the plastic that it is made with is very flimsy. The paper drawer flexes when I pull it out. The flip out extension for the received faxes or printed copies has already broken off and we've had the thing for only two months. The paper tray does not have a level indicator (and I've never seen a drawer system that didn't... we have three other fax machines and they all have it).

The box touted this machine is a multi-function machine. It does print, copy, and fax, but not at the same time. One has to wait for a fax to go all the way through before making a copy. Very annoying with clients standing right in front of you. To make a copy, one must actually change the mode of the machine (there is no "quick copy" button). It's pretty simple to change... it's only one button. But, you have to change it back to FAX manually. I cannot tell you how many times I've made 13 (or whatever the last two digits of the fax number are) copies of something that I meant to fax. Very annoying!

Another awful thing about this machine is that it only has 8 presets for programmed fax numbers. Our old one had 32 and we used all of them regularly.

One thing I do like is that the buttons are rubber. I like the feel better than plastic. Another good thing is the paper feeding system. When one uses the paper feeder on the top, it only takes one piece at a time. Many fax machines I've used take several at a time. The machine IS fairly quiet. Also, the toner and drum seem to last a long time. We change the toner about once a month and use the machine many times daily.
