Product Review

Looks cheap, but better than HP or Lexmark.

by   sage_patrynxx ,   Aug 15, 2005

Pros:  Consistent Ink flow. Even after a refill. (some cleaning might be warranted now and then.

Cons:  Paper jams when printing in draft mode. Feels cheap.

The Bottom Line:  Do you want a printer that takes $60 a month to run? Or $8 a month to run. Which is the lesser of two evils. Paper jams or ink cartridges.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

My mother bought this printer after some input from me. I'll never again buy a printer with the print head on the cartridge. It's an environmental waste. And expensive too. Now it's been half a year since she's had it and darn. The thing runs sweet. I like the cartridges... more like containers really. You can pop em out and refill them before they go empty. So there'll never be a problem there. I've become very impressed with Brother because of this nice little machine. That'll be my next printer. Or perhaps the model that's a step up from this one. My replacement 1350v from HP is a piece of junk. Which sometimes recognizes the cartridges and sometimes it thinks it's a new cartridge. When I'm done with it , it's gonna grow wings and fly out my window.

It does have a fax machine on it yes. But I've hardly used it. Except to look at the caller id whenever someone calls. I've read on the other model (which is almost exactly like this one) that it wastes ink. Perhaps. But I'd rather have it laying down some good ink, that too little. One thing one should not do with this printer is run it in draft mode. It tends to paper jam. I can take a paper jam. At least paper is cheap. Ink cartridges are not. So if your strapped for cash... this particular printer is a very easy way to make use of ink refills. Without hardly any mess. The generic ink containers at http://www.123inkjets.com have a refill hole at the top which makes it a messless breeze to refill. I tend to use netwares.com for my ink. However heartlandamerica.com tends to offer some steals on cheap ink. Netwares though seems to be better ink. And very sharp needles. I'm simply jealous that mom has this printer and I've gotten stuck with an HP. My recommendation is find a printer with a built in print head. Canon has these as well. Epson does too, although I've heard it's a pain to refill those cartridges. I'd be hedging to Brother than Canon. But the Canon's aren't bad either. But I think the ink containers to the Brother hold more.
