Product Review

Great for the price

by   kbuchanan ,   Jan 7, 2005

Pros:  quality of printing, ease of set up, price

Cons:  big foot print, only 20 pg doc feeder

The Bottom Line:  I would recommend this for someone who has a home based or small business.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

Recently I purchased an HP1240 ink jet fax after my Brother multi-function mal-functioned but I quickly took it back to the store because of the poor printing quality. Instead I purchased the Brother Intellifax 2800. There is a $30 rebate until 2/26/05 which further influenced my decision. Net cost after rebate is $169. That's what I paid for the HP.

Set up of this machine was so simple. I don't know whether it's the fact that it's similar to my previous Brother machine or that they just have designed it to be more intuitive. Either way, it makes for a happy buyer.

It came with a toner cartridge but a "mini" version, 1000 pgs, whereas the regular cartridge has a 2200 pg capacity. I calculated the per page cost at $.0282 for the regular toner cartridge and drum (based on $30 for cartridge @ 2200 pgs + $175 for drum unit @ 12000 pgs). If this proves to be accurate, I don't think that is expensive for operating costs. Changing the toner cartridge or drum unit is no more difficult than for a laser printer.

A 14400 fax speed and only a 20pg doc feeder capacity might be a down side for someone who is making a lot of lengthy long distance faxes.

Time will tell if I'm satisfied over the long haul but so far I'm feeling good about this purchase.
